    Abstract:

    A case of central leiomyoma of the mandible is reported, along with ultrastructural confirmation of the diagnosis. The pertinent literature is reviewed. It is probable that this lesion arose from the smooth muscle in the walls of blood vessels. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second report of a leiomyoma central in bone.

    The hyoid bone is a small U-shaped bone located in the upper neck at the level of the inferior mandible, with its tips pointing posteriorly.
