Background:

  • Neurological failure is a common complication of Infectious Endocarditis (IE).
  • Brain CT scans are standard, but MRI's benefit for IE is unclear.
  • This study compares MRI and CT for detecting cerebral lesions in IE.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the prevalence and types of cerebral lesions in IE using MRI.
  • To compare MRI findings with those from CT scans in IE patients.
  • To evaluate MRI's role in managing IE patients with neurological complications.

  • Patients with definite or possible IE (Duke's criteria) were screened (2010-2012).
  • Brain CT and MRI were performed soon after IE diagnosis.
