The importance of acid in peptic ulceration

There is strong evidence that acid plays an important role in the pathogenesis of peptic ulceration. However, other factors may be equally important in the initiation of ulceration and the subsequent relapse. Reducing acid aids ulcer healing but does not remove the underlying diathesis nor the tendency for ulceration to recur.
