This study compared three methods for subtyping Staphylococcus aureus in cattle, finding ribosomal spacer (RS)-PCR most effective. It also revealed that while animal strains evolve from human ones, direct zoonotic transfer of mastitis-causing bacteria between cattle and humans is limited.
