Area of Science:

  • Oral Pathology
  • Odontogenic Tumors
  • Neoplasms

Background:

  • Odontoameloblastoma (OA) is an exceptionally rare odontogenic tumor.
  • It exhibits features of both ameloblastoma and odontoma.
  • Few cases meet current World Health Organization classification criteria.

Observation:

  • Presents as a slow-growing lesion, similar to solid multi-cystic ameloblastoma.
  • Often associated with unerupted teeth, predominantly in males.
  • This case involves a 17-year-old female with an OA mimicking a fibro-osseous lesion.

Findings:

  • The tumor displayed characteristics of both ameloblastoma and odontoma.
  • Radiographic and histological examination confirmed the diagnosis.
  • The lesion was noted to be asymptomatic with slow, progressive growth.

Implications:

  • The rarity of OA leads to treatment challenges and controversies.
  • Accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate management.
  • Further research is needed to establish standardized treatment protocols for OA.
