Characteristics of Practical Op Amps01:16

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps

870
A difference amplifier, a crucial component in numerous electronic devices, ideally amplifies only the difference-mode signal, which is the difference between two input signals. However, in practical circuits, the output voltage depends on both the differential gain and the common-mode gain.
The ratio of differential gain to the common-mode gain is defined as the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). This ratio quantifies the ability of operational amplifiers (op-amps) to reject common-mode...

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice01:30

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

17.6K
Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients.
Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Equivalent Circuits for Practical Transformers01:28

Equivalent Circuits for Practical Transformers

1.4K
The practical equivalent circuits of single-phase two-winding transformers exhibit significant deviations from their idealized versions due to the inherent properties of winding resistance and finite core permeability. These properties result in real and reactive power losses, affecting the transformer's performance. Understanding these deviations is crucial for designing more efficient transformers.
In a practical transformer, each winding exhibits resistance and leakage reactance. The...

Techniques of therapeutic communication I: Active Listening, Sharing Observations, Validation, and Using Touch

8.0K
The history of therapeutic communication can be traced back to Florence Nightingale, who emphasized the importance of developing trusting relationships with patients. She taught that the presence of nurses with patients results in therapeutic healing.
Therapeutic communication is not the same as social interaction. Social interaction has no goal or purpose and consists of casual information sharing, whereas therapeutic communication has a plan or purpose for the conversation. Therapeutic...

Taxonomy01:31

Taxonomy

89.5K
Taxonomy is the science of defining and naming groups of biological organisms based on shared characteristics. It uses a hierarchy of increasingly inclusive categories with Latin names. The smallest units of taxonomy, species and genus, are used to assign a formal, taxonomic name to each species in a system. This classification system, referred to as binomial nomenclature, was formalized by Carolus Linnaeus in the 18th century.
Hierarchy of Taxonomy
The hierarchy that Carolus Linnaeus first...

Biodiversity and Human Values01:24

Biodiversity and Human Values

17.1K
Human civilization relies on biodiversity in many ways. Sudden changes in species biodiversity result in environmental changes that can modify weather patterns and therefore human civilizations.

Summary

Human milk sharing in the U.S. primarily occurs face-to-face, with most parents screening donors. Risk perception significantly influences screening practices, highlighting the need for safety interventions.

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Sociology
  • Human Lactation

Background:

  • Human milk sharing is a growing practice among parents in the United States.
  • Understanding the dynamics and safety perceptions of informal milk sharing is crucial for public health.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe human milk sharing practices in the U.S.
  • To examine social networks, donor compensation, anonymity, recipient risk concerns, and screening behaviors.
  • To identify associations between risk perception and screening practices.

Main Methods:

  • Online survey conducted from September 2013 to March 2014.
  • Inclusion of 867 respondents (661 donors, 206 recipients).
  • Chi-square analyses to test associations between risk perception and screening.

Main Results:

  • 96.1% of milk sharing occurred face-to-face; only 10% involved non-profit milk banks.
  • No anonymous purchases were reported.
  • Donor screening was common (90.7%) and associated with social relationship and familiarity.
  • Risk perception was significantly linked to donor screening for most risk variables.

Conclusions:

  • Most human milk sharing is informal and face-to-face, with parents employing screening methods.
  • Understanding parental risk perceptions is vital for developing effective public health interventions.
  • Further research is needed to ensure infant safety in milk sharing practices.
