Abstract:
The reaction of the cyclotetraphosphane [ClP(μ-PMes*)]2 (, Mes* = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl) with Ag[Al(OR(F))4] (R(F) = CH(CF3)2) resulted in a labile, dinuclear silver complex of , which eliminates AgCl above -30 °C. Its properties were investigated by spectroscopic methods, single crystal X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations.

Crystal field theory (CFT) is applicable to molecules in geometries other than octahedral. In octahedral complexes, the lobes of the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals point directly at the ligands.
