Fundamentals of Nursing Process II

6.0K
There are several characteristics related to delivering nursing care. One vital characteristic of the nursing process is that it can be used to protect nurses and justify the provided care. Productive use of the nursing process requires the knowledge and skills of nurses to assess and solve issues. Nurses should develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills and evidence-based nursing interventions to improve their skills in formulating nursing care plans. A well-defined approach to...

The Scientific Method in Nursing Process

19.2K
The scientific method provides the foundation for any research. It is the most reliable and objective of all forms of gaining knowledge and guides in applying research-based evidence in practice and conducting future research.
When using research findings to change practice, one must understand the process used to guide a study. The scientific method is a systematic, step-by-step process that supports the data's validity, reliability, and generalizability. As a result, findings can be...

Methods of Documentation V: CBE

1.5K
Charting by Exception, or CBE, is a method of documentation used in healthcare, particularly in nursing, that focuses on documenting only significant or abnormal findings rather than recording every detail. This approach aims to streamline the documentation process, improve efficiency, and ensure that healthcare providers can quickly identify deviations from normalcy in patient assessments.
In CBE, healthcare professionals establish predefined standards of practice that define what constitutes...

Fixation and Sectioning

Two basic types of preparation are used to visualize specimens with a light microscope: wet mounts and fixed specimens.
The simplest type of preparation is the wet mount, in which the specimen is placed in a drop of liquid on the slide. A liquid specimen can be directly deposited on the slide using a dropper. Solid specimens, such as skin scraping, can be placed on the slide before adding a drop of liquid to prepare the wet mount. Sometimes the liquid is simply water, but stains are often added...

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Context:

  • Early gastric cancer presents a significant clinical challenge.
  • Surgical intervention is a primary treatment modality.
  • Minimally invasive techniques are increasingly adopted for gastric cancer surgery.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the feasibility and oncologic safety of laparoscopic subtotal gastric resection with Roux-Y reconstruction for early gastric cancer.
  • To assess the functional outcomes and postoperative recovery in patients undergoing this procedure.

Summary:

  • A 35-year-old female with early gastric cancer underwent laparoscopic subtotal gastric resection and modified D2 lymphadenectomy with Roux-Y reconstruction.
  • The procedure involved meticulous dissection, stapler use for resection and reconstruction, and a hand-sewn jejuno-jejunostomy.
  • The surgery was completed in 200 minutes with minimal blood loss (100 ml), and the patient experienced an uneventful recovery, discharged on day 9.

Impact:

  • Laparoscopic subtotal gastric resection with Roux-Y reconstruction is a viable option for early gastric cancer.
  • This approach achieves oncologic safety and excellent functional results.
  • The study supports the adoption of minimally invasive techniques in gastric cancer treatment.
