Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and evaluate a novel knotting technique to reduce suturing time in laparoscopic surgery.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of the new technique in creating secure, leak-free anastomoses.

Main Methods:

  • A modified neurosurgical knot technique, termed the slip-knot-loop suture, was developed.
  • Twenty continuous sutures were performed: 10 with conventional knots (Group 1) and 10 with the slip-knot-loop (Group 2).
  • The technique was tested on five pig intestine anastomoses, assessing for leaks under saline distension.

Main Results:

  • The slip-knot-loop suture group (Group 2) demonstrated a significantly shorter mean suturing time (236 seconds) compared to the conventional knot group (Group 1, 300 seconds) (P < .001).

Conclusions:

  • The novel slip-knot-loop technique is quicker and safer than conventional knot tying for laparoscopic procedures.

  • The method ensures leak-free anastomoses, enhancing patient safety in minimally invasive surgery.
