Isolated Left Ventricular Hypoplasia in a Postpartum Patient

• Cardiac imaging showed a truncated, spherical left ventricle with severe systolic dysfunction and fatty replacement of the apex, but no myocardial fibrosis.

Findings:

• The diagnosis of isolated left ventricular apical hypoplasia was made.
• The right ventricle was noted to be elongated, wrapping around the left ventricular apex, with moderate systolic impairment.
• Concomitant peripartum cardiomyopathy was considered a possibility.

Implications:

• This case presents a rare congenital cardiac anomaly mimicking or coexisting with peripartum cardiomyopathy.
