The Müller reinforcement ring in surgery of the hip
1Divisione di Ortopedia e Traumatologia, Ospedale di Saronno.
Abstract:
The author reports 15 cases (16 hips) in which the Müller reinforcement ring was used. This is an effective alternative to more difficult and complicated surgery in cases of acetabular dysplasia, coxa profunda and, in particular, cases involving the reimplantation of a broken or loose prosthetic acetabulum. In cases of dysplasia it avoids complicated pelvic osteotomies, or the use of bone transplants to fill defects. In reimplantation, in particular, when the base of the acetabulum is defective, the ring avoids reconstruction of the base making the operation simpler and quicker, with a correspondingly more rapid recovery.
