The ankle is formed by the talocrural joint (crural = leg). It consists of the articulations between the talus bone of the foot and the distal ends of the tibia and fibula of the leg. Summary

Anatomical studies suggest the anterolateral ligament (ALL) is unique to humans. This study found no ALL in 58 dissected animal knees, questioning its presence in other species and surgical reconstruction necessity.
