Background:

Trauma significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality in the UK.
Temporal patterns of trauma admissions within established trauma networks remain largely uncharacterized.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the temporal patterns of trauma admissions.
To compare these patterns between two major trauma centres (MTCs) in Southeast England.
To inform resource planning for trauma care.

Main Methods:

Utilized Trauma Audit and Research Network data from April 2011 to March 2013.
Analyzed 1,223 admissions at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) and 1,241 at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SGU).
Examined admissions by time, weekday/weekend, and month/season, including injury severity score.

Main Results:

Admissions peaked in the afternoons (BSUH) and evenings (SGU).
Weekend admissions were proportionally higher than weekday admissions at both centres.
BSUH showed significant seasonal variation with more admissions in summer/autumn; SGU did not show significant seasonal variation.

Temporal admission patterns varied significantly between the two MTCs.
These differing patterns have substantial implications for trauma care resource allocation.
