Abstract:
The identification of mechanisms that regulate stem cell renewal has led to the development of innovative approaches to expand hematopoietic stem cells ex vivo. One approach reported by Wagner et al. (2016) in this issue of Cell Stem Cell has demonstrated dramatic expansion of umbilical cord blood stem cells that promote rapid engraftment while maintaining capacity for long-term hematopoiesis.
