Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of formula changes in managing infant colic.
  • To address and improve upon the methodological flaws of prior research.
  • To assess the reproducibility and duration of formula effects on colic.

  • A randomized, double-blind trial involving 17 colicky infants.
  • Alternating 4-day periods of casein hydrolysate (Nutramigen) and cow milk formula.

    • The positive effect of formula change diminishes with repeated exposure.
    • The effect of formula changes on infant colic is often not consistently reproducible.
