Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Pain Management
  • Postoperative Care

Background:

  • Knee arthroplasty is a common surgical procedure.
  • Effective postoperative management is crucial for patient recovery.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of cold therapy (Cryo/Cuff) after knee arthroplasty.
  • To assess its impact on pain, function, and bleeding.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study of 60 patients undergoing knee arthroplasty.
  • Randomized into two groups: one with Cryo/Cuff cold therapy, one without.
  • Cold therapy applied preoperatively and postoperatively for four days.

Main Results:

  • Patients receiving Cryo/Cuff showed significantly improved Knee Society Scores (KSS).
  • Visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and analgesic use were reduced.
  • No significant difference in surgical bleeding parameters between groups.

Conclusions:

  • Preoperative and postoperative cryotherapy is effective for pain control post-knee arthroplasty.
  • Cryotherapy enhances functional knee outcomes.
  • Cryotherapy does not increase surgical blood loss.
