Obedience

35.7K
According to obedience research, we may harm others under the forceful pressures of an authority figure (Milgram, 1974). How about if the inappropriate orders were delivered with less force? Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Critical Thinking I01:24

Critical Thinking I

Critical thinking helps decision-making and allows nurses to recognize barriers to success and find solutions to possible issues. It helps to brainstorm and implement ideas to achieve goals. Critical thinking helps acknowledge and state workflow inefficiencies while improving management techniques. Nurses understand the value of critical thinking and look for fellow nurses with critical thinking skills to upgrade their professional standards. Critical thinking can advance a nurse's career...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing and Healthcare
  • Psychology
  • Professional Development

Background:

  • The midwifery profession requires assertive individuals capable of developing midwifery care.
  • This study investigated the correlation between assertiveness and problem-solving skills in midwives.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the relationship between assertiveness and problem-solving skills among midwives.
  • To identify factors influencing assertiveness and problem-solving in midwifery practice.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 201 midwives in Sivas.
  • Utilized the Rathus Assertiveness Schedule (RAS) and Problem Solving Inventory (PSI).
  • Employed statistical analyses including Pearson Correlation and t-tests (P < 0.05).

Main Results:

  • Significant differences in assertiveness and problem-solving skills were observed based on professional roles and team participation.
  • A statistically significant negative correlation (r: -0.451, P < 0.01) was found between assertiveness and problem-solving scores.
  • Higher assertiveness scores correlated with lower problem-solving scores, indicating that more assertive midwives were better problem solvers.

Conclusions:

  • Assertiveness and problem-solving skills are significantly related in midwives.
  • Assertive midwives exhibit superior problem-solving capabilities.
  • Training in assertiveness and problem-solving is recommended to enhance midwifery practice and professional development.
