Feasibility of Simple Traction Technique for Rectal Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

Background:

• Rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is effective for en bloc resection of rectal neoplasms.
• However, rectal ESD carries risks of bleeding and is challenging for beginners.

Purpose of the Study:

• To introduce and assess the feasibility of a novel traction technique, traction-assisted rectal ESD using a clip-with-line (TAREC).

Main Methods:

• The TAREC technique was applied to ten patients with rectal neoplasms (median size 36 mm).
• Procedures were performed between December 2014 and July 2015.

Main Results:

• TAREC provided good visibility and facilitated easy dissection of the submucosal layer.
• All ten lesions were successfully removed en bloc with no intraoperative or postoperative bleeding.
• No procedure-related adverse events were observed.

Conclusions:

• The TAREC technique is a simple, generally applicable, and feasible method for rectal ESD.
• It enhances safety by reducing the risk of bleeding during the procedure.
