Applications Of Nonlinear Principal Components Analysis To Behavioral Data
Abstract:
A quadratic function was derived from variables believed to be nonlinearly related. The method was suggested by Gnanadesikan (1977) and based on an early paper of Karl Pearson (1901) (which gave rise to principal components), in which Pearson demonstrated that a plane of best fit to a system of points could be elicited from the elements of the eigenvector associated with the smallest eigenvalue of the covariance matrix.
