Methods of Obtaining Topography01:25

Methods of Obtaining Topography

446
Topography involves measuring and mapping land elevations, natural features, and artificial structures to create accurate representations of the terrain. Topographic surveying relies on traditional and modern methods, each with distinct advantages and limitations.Traditional Surveying Methods:Transit stadia surveys and plane table surveys were widely used traditional surveying methods. These techniques relied on instruments like theodolites and stadia rods for measuring distances and angles,...

Summary

The third and fourth sequential overlays created using the envelopment technique showed the best matching accuracy. This method also demonstrated statistically significant inter- and intraoperator reliability for dental models.

Area of Science:

  • Dental modeling
  • Biomechanical analysis
  • Diagnostic imaging

Background:

  • The envelopment technique is a method for generating sequential overlays from dental stone models.
  • Evaluating the reliability and accuracy of these overlays is crucial for clinical applications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare four sequential overlays generated using the envelopment technique.
  • To assess the inter- and intraoperator reliability of overlays produced by this method.

Main Methods:

  • Dental stone models were created and photographed.
  • Computer-assisted overlays were generated.
  • Models were sectioned into 1mm thick sequential cuts, photographed, and overlays were created.

Main Results:

  • A total of 125 overlays were generated and compared.
  • The Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Spearman's rank correlation tests were employed for analysis.
  • The third and fourth sequential overlays exhibited superior matching accuracy.

Conclusions:

  • The third and fourth sequential overlays are recommended for use.
  • The envelopment technique demonstrated statistically significant inter- and intraoperator reliability (P < 0.05).
