Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of postoperative peritoneal inflammation on colon cancer cell migration.
  • To analyze cytokine profiles in peritoneal fluid after colorectal resection.

  • Prospective enrollment of 23 patients undergoing elective colorectal resection.
  • Collection and analysis of peritoneal fluids using in vitro scratch assays and multianalyte profiling for cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10).

  • Postoperative peritoneal fluid significantly increased colon cancer cell migration capacity compared to preoperative fluid.

Conclusions:

  • This enhancement is associated with the levels of specific cytokines present postoperatively.
  • Larger studies are required to correlate these findings with perioperative factors and patient outcomes.
