[NMR diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis]
1Afd. Kinderneurologie, Academisch Ziekenhuis, Utrecht.
Abstract:
NMR has much greater capacity than CT to distinguish between various normal and pathological types of tissue. The histological abnormalities of tuberous sclerosis can be demonstrated in detail. The practical value of NMR in the diagnostic process of mentally defective children in general and of children suspected of tuberous sclerosis in particular depends on the specifications of the NMR apparatus, of the capabilities of the radiologist and the referring physician and of the quality of their cooperation. For an optimal use of NMR facilities technical knowledge of the imaging process as well as knowledge of somatic causes of mental deficiency and their histopathological patterns are required.
