[Diagnostic strategy in icterus using modern imaging systems]

Analysing capabilities and limitations of the presently available diagnostic imaging methods for diseases with obstruction of the biliary pathways, proposals for a diagnostic strategy are derived for the various diagnostic methods, considering technical, economic and capacity aspects. Indications for all the methods (sonography, computed tomography, ERCP and PTC), single or combined, still exist for the various diseases and problems. The diagnostic strategies were derived from our practical experiences with these methods. Other economic or local conditions will possibly modify the strategies. Therefore they should not be seen as dogma.
