Summary

Cardiac biomarkers Troponin I and Pro-brain natriuretic peptide (ProBNP) were elevated in placenta previa (PP) cases. ProBNP levels can predict placenta accreta, a severe complication of PP.

Background:

  • The relationship between these biomarkers and PP, particularly placenta accreta, requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between maternal serum levels of ProBNP, CK, CK-MB, and Troponin I and the presence of placenta previa.
  • To determine if these biomarkers can predict placenta accreta in women with placenta previa.

  • A case-control study involving 54 pregnant women diagnosed with placenta previa (including 14 with placenta accreta) and 46 healthy controls.

  • Pro-brain natriuretic peptide (ProBNP) shows potential as a predictive biomarker for identifying placenta accreta in cases of placenta previa.
