Background:

Mobile technology presents opportunities for chronic disease management by enabling real-time interventions linked to healthcare teams.
A structured framework is essential for developing and evaluating mobile health (mHealth) interventions tailored to specific diseases, populations, and outcomes.
The framework must integrate clinical evidence, user experience, and technical capabilities for scalable, evidence-based mHealth solutions.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify and develop a mobile app intervention design framework for chronic diseases.
To refine this framework through the development of diverse mHealth applications.

Main Methods:

Framework development occurred from June 2012 to June 2014.
The framework was informed by clinical guidelines, standards of care, research, and expert input.
Refinement involved application across seven chronic disease states and three product types.

Main Results:

The Chronic Disease mHealth App Intervention Design Framework was successfully developed.
This framework facilitates the integration of clinical and behavioral evidence into intervention and feature design.
