    Summary

    A rare congenital epidermoid cyst caused intestinal obstruction in a young cat. Surgical removal offers a good prognosis for this benign condition.

    Background:

    • Intestinal obstructions in felines can arise from various causes, necessitating accurate diagnosis and treatment.
    • Epidermoid cysts, while uncommon in the feline jejunum, are important differential diagnoses for abdominal masses.

    Observation:

    • A 3-year-old cat presented with anorexia and vomiting, indicative of gastrointestinal distress.
    • Physical examination revealed a palpable caudal abdominal mass.
    • Diagnostic imaging (ultrasound) and exploratory surgery identified a cystic mass within the jejunum.

    Findings:

    • Histopathological examination confirmed the mass as an epidermoid cyst.
    • The cyst's congenital origin was inferred due to the absence of prior abdominal surgery.
    • The epidermoid cyst's gradual growth led to significant intestinal obstruction.
