  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to characterize the morphology of the silver microstructures.
  • Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy with a 1064 nm laser was used to measure SERS spectra.
  • Main Results:

    • Dendritic silver microstructures with controllable trunk and branch lengths were successfully synthesized.
    • The SERS enhancement factor reached approximately 10^3 for substrates prepared with a 40s reaction time.
    • Treatment with Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactant enhanced the SERS performance, achieving an enhancement factor of approximately 10^4.
    • The silver microstructures exhibited good stability and could be preserved for several months in deionized water.

    Conclusions:

    • The developed replacement reaction offers a fast, easy, and effective route to SERS-active silver microstructured substrates.
    • The nanostructured surface of the dendritic silver microstructures contributes to their excellent SERS activity.
    • The use of surfactants like PVP can further significantly improve the SERS enhancement factor, making these substrates highly promising for sensitive detection applications.
