This study explores the nature of life as a singular, continuous process rather than a class of similar entities. It argues that life on Earth should be considered an ontological individual, based on its spatio-temporal localization and continuity. The authors propose that all living organisms share a common origin and exhibit continuity at the cellular level. They suggest that biological species are themselves individuals, not classes. The study also considers the possibility of independent origins of life and their implications for classification. The discovery of another life-individual would support the universality of biology.
