We developed a green synthesis for graphene-Prussian Blue composites, ideal for biosensors and supercapacitors. These hybrid materials show high stability, conductivity, and performance in energy storage and hydrogen peroxide detection.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Nanotechnology
- Electrochemistry
Background:
- Mixed-valence inorganic nanostructure functionalized graphene composites, like Prussian blue, are gaining interest for cost-effective biosensors and energy devices.
- Graphene oxide (GO) serves as an electron acceptor, enabling its use in composite materials.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a one-pot green synthesis for interlocked graphene-Prussian Blue hybrid composites.
- To evaluate the synthesized composites as high-performance materials for biosensors and supercapacitor electrodes.
Main Methods:
- A one-pot green synthesis using iron(II) and glucose as co-reducing agents to reduce graphene oxide (GO).
- Simultaneous generation of high-quality Prussian blue nanocubes with minimal coordinated water.
- Functionalization of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by Prussian blue nanocubes via chemical bonding, forming an interlocked microstructure.
Main Results:
- The synthesized graphene-Prussian Blue composites exhibit high stability and good conductivity.
- Electrodes made from these composites achieved a specific capacitance of 428 Fg⁻¹, with good cycling stability.
- The composites demonstrated high catalytic performance for hydrogen peroxide electroreduction, with a sensitivity of 1.5 Acm⁻²M⁻¹.
Conclusions:
- The developed green synthesis method yields stable and conductive graphene-Prussian Blue hybrid composites.
- These materials are promising for applications in high-performance biosensors and supercapacitor electrodes.
- The composites show excellent potential for sensitive hydrogen peroxide detection and efficient energy storage.
