Lack of access to mental health services is a significant concern for low-income, uninsured, and Medicaid populations.
Accountable health communities aim to improve healthcare access and quality for underserved groups.
The Washtenaw Health Initiative (WHI) is a countywide coalition focused on enhancing healthcare for vulnerable populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the planning and implementation of an integrated behavioral health project.
To evaluate the effectiveness of pilot testing collaborative care in safety-net clinics.
To discuss the challenges, outcomes, and broader relevance of the initiative.

Main Methods:

The Washtenaw Health Initiative (WHI) facilitated and endorsed the project.
Collaborative care, an evidence-based treatment model, was pilot-tested in county safety-net clinics.
The project involved a coalition of academic, community, health system, and county government agencies.
