Summary

Granulomatous tattoo reactions can be an early sign of sarcoidosis (a multisystem inflammatory disease). Recognizing these skin reactions is crucial for diagnosing systemic sarcoidosis.

Skin Tattooing As A Novel Approach For DNA Vaccine Delivery

Background:

Sarcoidosis affects the skin in approximately one-third of cases.
Granulomatous tattoo reactions are an uncommon presentation of sarcoidosis.
These reactions can be a key indicator for diagnosing systemic sarcoidosis.

Observation:

A 35-year-old female presented with tattoo tenderness, fatigue, joint pain, and dyspnea.
Skin biopsy revealed dermal non-caseating granulomata associated with tattoo ink.
Systemic sarcoidosis was diagnosed through further investigations.

Findings:

The patient's symptoms and skin manifestations improved with conservative management.
Sarcoidal tattoo reactions are rare in individuals without systemic sarcoidosis.
The presence of granulomatous tattoo reactions warrants a thorough investigation for systemic sarcoidosis.

Implications:

Early identification of skin involvement in sarcoidosis is vital for prompt diagnosis.
The skin serves as an accessible site for biopsy, facilitating early sarcoidosis detection.
Recognizing sarcoidal tattoo reactions aids in the timely diagnosis and management of systemic sarcoidosis.
