Aging, immunity, and critical care nursing

Age-related changes of the immune system along with underlying disease can reduce the elderly patients' chances of survival in critical care. Complications can be minimized when the health care team responds not only to the needs of the critically ill patient, but also to the needs specific to the elderly patient.
