Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the effectiveness of an activity-based workshop versus a didactic/canned workshop on student learning and confidence in research methods and statistics.
  • To evaluate student engagement, knowledge acquisition, and confidence in applying statistical concepts.

  • A randomized controlled trial comparing two workshop formats: activity-based (computer experiment, real data) and didactic/canned (described experiment, pre-existing data).
  • 39 students were randomized into tutorial groups and completed a post-workshop evaluation.
  • Generalized linear mixed models were used for statistical analysis.

  • Students in the activity-based workshop demonstrated significantly greater knowledge of methodological and statistical issues.
