A heuristic is a general problem-solving framework (Tversky & Kahneman, 1974). You can think of these as mental shortcuts that are used to solve problems. Different types of heuristics are used in different types of situations, and the impulse to use a heuristic occurs when one of five conditions is met (Pratkanis, 1989):

Area of Science:

  • Community health
  • Pediatrics
  • Social services integration

Context:

  • Over 20 years, numerous community social pediatrics centres (CSPs) have emerged in Quebec.
  • Complex child needs necessitate strong collaboration with social services and public/community health networks.

Purpose:

  • To assess CSPs' integration levels within social services and public/community health networks.
  • To identify collaboration issues and challenges faced by CSPs.

Summary:

  • CSPs report stronger collaboration and desire for more engagement with public health networks compared to community networks.
  • Collaboration quality, including positive climate and joint coordination, is higher with public health networks.
  • While collaboration issues are similar, challenges are perceived differently across stakeholder networks.

Impact:

  • Findings highlight the importance of inter-organizational collaboration for effective pediatric care.
  • Addressing challenges like identity recognition and funding is crucial for optimizing CSPs' network integration.
