PLATEAU IRIS SYNDROME--CASE SERIES.

    Summary

    Plateau iris syndrome, a rare condition causing angle closure after laser iridotomy, can occur without a shallow anterior chamber. This report details two cases in young patients diagnosed incidentally during eye exams.

    Background:

    • Plateau iris is an anatomical variation where the ciliary body's size or anterior insertion causes anterior chamber angle closure.
    • It's crucial to distinguish plateau iris configuration from plateau iris syndrome.

    Observation:

    • Plateau iris configuration involves a flat iris root and normal anterior chamber depth.
    • Plateau iris syndrome is defined by recurrent angle closure post-laser iridotomy, despite a patent iridotomy and absence of shallowing.

    Findings:

    • Isolated plateau iris syndrome is uncommon.
    • Two young patients with incidentally discovered plateau iris syndrome are presented.

    Implications:

    • This highlights the importance of recognizing plateau iris syndrome, even in asymptomatic young individuals.
