Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Robotic Surgery

Background:

  • Synchronous prostate cancer and renal cell carcinoma present a complex clinical challenge.
  • Treatment requires careful consideration of surgical approach to manage both malignancies effectively.

Observation:

  • A 61-year-old man with synchronous prostate cancer and suspicious right renal cell carcinoma underwent a combined surgical procedure.
  • The patient was treated with Retzius-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RS-RARP) and robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN).

Findings:

  • The combined RS-RARP and RAPN approach was technically feasible.
  • This combined robotic surgery demonstrated safety in managing concomitant prostate and kidney cancers.

Implications:

  • This combined robotic approach offers a viable surgical solution for patients with both prostate and renal malignancies.
  • Further research may explore the long-term outcomes and oncological control of this combined surgical technique.
