    Area of Science:

    • Reproductive Health
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • Sexual Medicine

    Background:

    • Pregnancy commonly leads to reduced frequency of sexual intercourse, desire, and satisfaction.
    • Understanding changes in sexual habits during the third trimester is crucial for maternal well-being.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine women's sexual habits during the third trimester of pregnancy.
    • To compare sexual activity before and during pregnancy, including in multiparous women.

    Main Methods:

    • A questionnaire-based study involving 149 women in their third trimester of pregnancy.
    • Data collected on demographics, sexual activity prior to and during pregnancy, and sources of information.

    Main Results:

    • Sexual activity decreased significantly during pregnancy, with reduced frequency of vaginal, oral, and anal sex.
    • Key reasons for decreased activity included lower libido (35.5%), physician advice (29%), and concerns for fetal health (29%).
    • Reduced sexual satisfaction (54%) and feelings of decreased attractiveness (43.5%) were reported; multiparous women engaged in sex less frequently in subsequent pregnancies.

    Conclusions:

    • Sexual activity declines during pregnancy, often influenced by fear for the child and insufficient knowledge.
    • The role of healthcare providers in addressing sexual activity concerns during pregnancy is currently inadequate.
