Summary

Diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy are highly prevalent in primary care, affecting nearly half and over half of patients with type 2 diabetes, respectively. Early detection via digital retinal imaging is crucial, especially given high rates in patients with diabetes duration of 5 years or less.
