Background:

The DuPage Patient Navigation Collaborative (DPNC) adapted a model to assist uninsured women with abnormal breast/cervical cancer screenings.
Previous findings show DPNC effectiveness in addressing delayed follow-up risk factors, but patient measures may not fully capture navigator impact.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the critical roles of the DPNC in strengthening community partnerships and enhancing clinical services through provider interviews.
To identify how navigators impact resource utilization and service delivery for vulnerable populations.

Main Methods:

Conducted semistructured interviews with 19 DPNC providers from diverse organizations (county health, clinics, advocacy, academia).
Analyzed qualitative data to understand provider perspectives on DPNC's role in community and clinical settings.

Main Results:

Providers reported that while resources existed, they were often underused before DPNC implementation.
DPNC was instrumental in fostering community partnerships, improving referral processes, communication, and clinical service delivery.
Navigators enhanced collaboration between community resources and clinical teams.

Conclusions:

The DPNC model effectively strengthens community partnerships and enhances clinical service delivery for vulnerable women.
Expanding patient navigation to mental health, women's health, and chronic conditions is recommended.
