We sequenced the genome of Streptococcus gordonii CCUG 33482(T), a bacterium linked to subacute bacterial endocarditis. This provides a foundational resource for understanding this Streptococcus mitis group member.
Area of Science:
- Microbiology
- Genomics
- Bacterial Pathogenesis
Background:
- Streptococcus gordonii is part of the Streptococcus mitis group.
- This specific strain, CCUG 33482(T), was isolated from a patient with subacute bacterial endocarditis.
Purpose of the Study:
- To perform and report the draft genome sequencing of Streptococcus gordonii type strain CCUG 33482(T).
- To provide a genomic resource for Streptococcus gordonii.
Main Methods:
- Draft genome sequencing using next-generation sequencing technologies.
- Bioinformatic analysis for genome assembly and gene annotation.
Main Results:
- The draft genome sequence of Streptococcus gordonii CCUG 33482(T) was assembled into 41 contigs.
- The total genome size is approximately 2.15 Mb.
- 2,061 coding sequences were annotated.
Conclusions:
- The availability of this draft genome sequence facilitates further research into the biology and pathogenicity of Streptococcus gordonii.
- This genomic data can aid in understanding the role of this bacterium in endocarditis.
