    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Genomics
    • Health Sciences

    Background:

    • Foundational genetics and genomics knowledge is crucial for modern nursing.
    • The Genomic Nursing Concept Inventory (GNCI) assesses nurses' understanding of genetic concepts.
    • Previous validation of the GNCI focused on nursing students; validation with practicing nurses is needed.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the feasibility of a web-based Genomic Nursing Concept Inventory (GNCI).
    • To validate the GNCI for assessing genetic-genomic knowledge in practicing nurses.
    • To support competency-based continuing education for nurses in genetics and genomics.

    Main Methods:

    • A web-based version of the GNCI was utilized.
    • The study employed a purposive sampling method.
    • Psychometric performance of the GNCI was assessed in practicing nurses.

    Main Results:

    • The web-based GNCI proved feasible for use with practicing nurses.
    • Psychometric features, including scale, subscale, concept difficulty, and internal consistency reliability, were within acceptable ranges.
    • The GNCI demonstrated acceptable psychometric performance for this population.

    Conclusions:

    • The study successfully validated the GNCI for assessing genetic-genomic knowledge in practicing nurses.
    • The web-based format of the GNCI is a feasible and effective tool.
    • This research supports the use of the GNCI for continuing education and competency assessment in genomic nursing.
