Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between dental procedures and BPPV.
  • To determine if dental manipulation is a risk factor for BPPV development.

Main Methods:

  • Nationwide population-based case-control study using Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database.
  • Recruited 768 BPPV patients and 1536 matched controls (2007-2012).
  • Assessed dental procedures within 1 and 3 months prior to BPPV diagnosis, adjusting for comorbidities.

Main Results:

  • 9.2% of BPPV patients underwent dental procedures within 1 month, versus 5.5% in controls (P=0.001).
  • Recent dental procedures showed a positive association with BPPV (aOR 1.77).
  • The association remained significant when extending the timeframe to 3 months (aOR 1.77).

  • Dental procedures are correlated with an increased risk of BPPV.
