Background:

  • Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus.
  • Pelvic endometriosis can affect the rectosigmoid colon, presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • Differentiating colonic endometriosis from primary colonic neoplasms is clinically important.

Observation:

  • Three women with rectosigmoid colon endometriosis presented with symptoms suggestive of malignancy.
  • Symptoms included intestinal obstruction, weight loss, and rectal bleeding.
  • Radiologic imaging revealed a mass lesion involving the rectosigmoid colon in two patients.

Findings:

  • Colonic endometriosis can clinically and radiologically mimic primary intestinal malignant neoplasms.
