Dissolved organic nitrogen in urban streams: Biodegradability and molecular composition studies

Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) in urban streams is mainly composed of stable lignin-like compounds. Microbial activity slightly altered the chemical structure of the small fraction of biodegradable DON.
