Summary

Patch testing can help identify contact allergy in prurigo patients, even though it is not a typical symptom. This study found a significant number of positive reactions, suggesting its clinical utility.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence and patterns of contact allergy in patients diagnosed with prurigo.
  • To analyze patch test results in this specific patient population.

  • Retrospective analysis of data from the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (2005-2014).
  • Inclusion of 639 prurigo patients out of 116,744 patch-tested individuals.

Main Results:

  • 35% of prurigo patients had at least one positive patch test reaction.
  • No distinct sensitization pattern was observed.
  • Prurigo patients showed significantly more reactions to sodium lauryl sulfate irritant control.

Conclusions:
