  • Faculty of Medicine (FOM) investigated physician participation in group learning.
  • Aims to understand interest in new continuing professional development (CPD) formats.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify differences between physicians who participate in planned group learning and those who do not.
  • To gauge interest in novel continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities.

Main Methods:

  • A 19-item questionnaire was distributed to 485 randomly selected family physicians in Eastern Ontario.
  • Assessed current CPD participation, satisfaction, perceived impact, and learning needs.

Main Results:

  • 151 physicians responded (31% response rate).
  • Non-attenders reported lower satisfaction with current CPD (p=0.04).
  • Non-attenders expressed interest in self-learning, online resources, and simulation.

Conclusions:

  • Despite satisfaction with current large-group CPD, many physicians seek alternative learning methods.
  • There is a clear demand for personalized study and online continuing professional development (CPD) resources.
