DNA ploidy in papillary tumours of the breast

Abstract:
The DNA content of benign and malignant papillary tumours of the breast as well as a group of papillary tumours where this distinction could not be made with certainty was measured by flow cytometry. All the benign papillomas were diploid; 5 of 19 carcinomas were aneuploid; and 1 of 15 tumours of undecided type was also aneuploid. Comparison of the DNA indices, proliferation indices and coefficients of variation were of no value in distinguishing between benign and malignant specimens.
