Summary

Endoscopic diverticulotomy using the Ligasure™ vessel sealer is a safe and effective treatment for Zenker diverticulum. This minimally invasive approach offers high success rates with minimal complications.

Background:

Zenker diverticulum presents a surgical challenge.
Endoscopic treatments offer a feasible, effective, and safe alternative.
The Ligasure™ vessel sealer facilitates rapid tissue dissection and hemostasis.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic diverticulotomy for Zenker diverticulum using the Ligasure™ vessel sealer.

Main Methods:

Retrospective, descriptive study of patients undergoing endoscopic diverticulotomy with Ligasure™.
Procedures performed under deep sedation in an endoscopy unit.
Post-procedure observation and outpatient follow-up.

Main Results:

Eight patients (5 female, 3 male; mean age 78) with Zenker diverticulum treated.
100% technical success rate for the procedure.
One patient experienced upper gastrointestinal bleeding; 7/8 patients were asymptomatic post-treatment.

Conclusions:

Endoscopic diverticulotomy with Ligasure™ is highly effective, fast, and safe for Zenker diverticulum.
This technique demonstrates a 0% rate of surgery, morbidity, and mortality.
Consideration of this endoscopic approach as the treatment of choice is warranted.
