Area of Science:

  • Dental Materials Science
  • Biomaterials Engineering

Background:

  • Denture prosthesis weight significantly impacts stability and retention.
  • Current denture weight reduction methods are often cumbersome and strenuous.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a novel denture fabrication technique for weight reduction.
  • To ensure reduced denture weight does not compromise retention and stability.

Main Methods:

  • Four groups (10 samples each): one control (solid) and three study groups.
  • Study groups packed with bean balls, cellulose balls, or polyacrylic fibers.
  • Statistical analysis using paired t-test to compare weights.

Main Results:

  • Bean balls group achieved 31.3% weight reduction.
  • Cellulose balls group achieved 27.4% weight reduction.
  • Polyacrylic fibers group achieved 24.5% weight reduction compared to control.

Conclusions:

  • The novel technique effectively reduces denture prosthesis weight.
  • Bean balls demonstrated the most significant weight reduction among tested materials.
  • This method avoids issues associated with creating hollowness in dentures.
