Lower extremity amputations significantly impact patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). This study found major amputation rates increased from 2004 to 2013 in Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) patients, remaining high compared to developed nations.

- Lower extremity amputation rates at IMSS are notably high when compared to developed countries.
- A significant increase in major lower extremity amputations was observed between 2004 and 2013.
